Rill for Chrome

Record a Chrome tab.

Record a website tab you already use, then watch it in Rill with captured browser details. Start with a short flow and safe test data.

Add to Chrome (opens Chrome Web Store in a new tab)

Install and connect.

Use desktop Google Chrome and a Rill account. Free is enough to try this; your plan’s recording and storage limits apply.

  1. Install Rill. Open the Chrome Web Store listing (opens Chrome Web Store in a new tab), choose Add to Chrome, then approve the extension.
  2. Pin it. In Chrome’s Extensions menu (the puzzle icon), pin Rill for Chrome so you can reach the recorder from your toolbar.
  3. Connect your account. Open Rill from the toolbar and choose Sign in to Rill. Sign in in the same Chrome profile, check the account shown, and choose Continue to recorder. Already installed? Connect and open the recorder.

Your Rill sign-in chooses where the video is saved. It does not change the account you are using in the website you record.

Record one useful flow.

  1. Choose what to show. Use Try your first recording in the recorder for a harmless sample. Or open the website you want to record, including a signed-in app or localhost, and choose that tab in Rill.
  2. Check the tab, then record. Confirm the tab name and choose Record this tab. Chrome shows a debugging notice while Rill captures the tab. Only the selected tab is recorded.
  3. Perform the steps. On the sample page, enter a sample workspace name and submit the form. In your own app, reproduce one bug or walk through one change. The sample does not change your real workspaces.
  4. Stop and save. Choose Stop and save in Rill. Keep Chrome open while the recording uploads. Saving and preparing the playable video are separate steps.

The extension captures video, console messages and request details. It does not capture your microphone, camera, request headers or request bodies. Use Record my screen if you want optional narration.

Watch it, then decide what to do next.

Choose Open recording. If Rill is still preparing the video, wait for Ready, then play it. Check that the recording shows the steps you intended. Use the Console and Network views when you need the captured details around a problem. Learn what those details mean.

Your recording starts private in your Rill workspace. To send it to someone, choose Create share link after reviewing the video and diagnostics. Anyone with an active share link can view it. Add the task, the important timestamp, what you observed and anything you did not check. Read the playback and sharing guide.

Use Record another to capture the flow again after a change. Reviewing or reanalyzing an existing video does not create a new recording of your app.

If you get stuck.

Can’t find the extension?
Open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin Rill. Check that you installed it in the Chrome profile you are using.
Wrong Rill account?
Disconnect in the Rill side panel, sign into the intended Rill account in Chrome, and connect again.
Wrong tab?
Before starting, select the intended website tab in Rill and confirm its name. If you have already started, stop the take and make a new recording of the right tab.
Chrome won’t let you record this page?
Chrome protects its internal pages, extension pages and the Web Store. Switch to an ordinary website tab.
Saved, but the video is not ready?
The upload may be saved while Rill prepares playback. Keep the recording page open for its status update. If an error appears, follow the retry guidance in the recorder. Follow the recovery steps, or contact us if it does not recover.
Need to record on another browser?
Use Record my screen in a supported browser. Capture choices depend on the browser.

Use the route that fits the task.

Rill for Chrome records the tab you choose; it does not operate your browser. An agent needs its own compatible browser tools and your authorization to perform steps. The agent quickstart records the browser your coding agent controls without requiring the extension.

ChatGPT can review Rill recordings and run supported browser tasks through the Rill plugin. You can use those workflows independently of Chrome recording. Compare the recording routes.
